Cannes Film Festival: The Best Fashion From Cannes 2016

Publié le 14/05/2016 à 04:49 par blacktrends Tags : Cannes Film Festival 2016 fashion

Only three days down, and the Festival de Cannes 2016 is a sartorial lookbook to die for.

Kristen Stewart, Blake Lively, Naomi Watts, Susan Sarandon, Eva Longoria, Amal Clooney, Soko, Lily Rose-Depp and many more have had stunning red carpet moments, not to mention gentlemen like George Clooney,Justin Timberlake, Gael Garcìa Bernal, and Mads Mikkelsen.

For example, Chanel ambassador and style icon Stewart is really bring her eclectic taste to Cannes this year with sneakers, t-shirts and her overall badass aesthetic, as well as her thoughts on the festival’s antiquated (and sexist) red-carpet “rules” in which heels are rumored to be required by women.

During a roundtable talk with her Café Society director Woody Allen, Stewart was asked byIndiewire about her costume change on Wednesday (May 11, Cannes’ opening night) in which she switched from heels to flats (i.e. Vans sneakers) after her red carpet premiere.

“I was not making a statement,” she explained. “I thought the heels looked better with the short prom dresses and that flats look better with a skirt, and they’re easier to wear for several hours.”

She did explain that she’s not too keen on the festival’s supposed red-carpet policy that requires women to wear heels.

Things have to change immediately. It has become really obvious that if [a man and I] were walking the red carpet together and someone stopped me and said, ‘Excuse me, young lady, you’re not wearing heels. You cannot come in.’ Then [I’m going to say], ‘Neither is my friend. Does he have to wear heels?’ It can work both ways. It’s just like you simply cannot ask me to do something that you are not asking him. I get the black-tie thing but you should be able to do either version—flats or heels.

This isn’t a revolt against heels, however: “They’re beautiful. I love them. And they look amazing.”

In any case, the fashion from the first three days of Cannes has us green with envy and excited to see what else is to come between now and the festival’s culmination on May 22.
